Windows 10 Ends in Two Weeks

Updated: Sep 28

⏳ The Countdown Is On

Microsoft is officially ending support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025 — and that’s just two weeks away.

After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates, bug fixes, or technical help for Windows 10 computers. While your computer will still turn on and run, it will become unsafe to use online very quickly.

❓ Why It Matters

When support ends, Windows 10 becomes a prime target for hackers. Without patches and updates, the system grows weaker every day.

  • Hackers will target outdated systems because they know there are no more patches.

  • Online banking, shopping, and secure websites may block older systems for safety reasons.

  • New apps and programs may not install or function correctly.

  • Even the best antivirus software can’t fully protect you once Microsoft ends updates.

Think of it like leaving your front door unlocked to your home and hoping no one breaks in — the longer you wait, the more dangerous it becomes.

🛑 What Happens If You Don’t Upgrade

  • No more security updates, leaving your system open to hackers.

  • Increased risk of identity theft, compromised accounts, and stolen data.

  • Gradual failure of software compatibility — your favorite apps may stop working.

  • Online banking and certain websites may refuse access.

💰 Why You Shouldn’t Wait

As we’ve seen in past expirations, manufacturers and retailers raise prices as deadlines approach. Inventory can also shrink, driving costs higher.

Right now, prices are still stable — but I’ve already started to see signs of a spike. Waiting until the last minute could mean paying 10% or more for the same computer.

👉 Don’t wait until you’re forced into an overpriced, last-minute decision.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to bring my computer in for the upgrade?

Yes. Windows upgrades cannot be done remotely — your system needs to be brought into the shop for me to work on it safely and properly.

How long does the upgrade take?

Turnaround time is typically 2–3 days, depending on how old your system is and how much data needs to be transferred. In some cases, you may be without your computer for at least one full day, so plan accordingly.

What if my system can’t be upgraded?

If your computer isn’t eligible for Windows 11, I can help you find the best replacement option. I’ll transfer all your files, set up your accounts, and make sure the transition is as smooth as possible.

Do I need to book an appointment?

Yes. Due to high demand, I now require all appointments to be booked online. This is the fastest way to schedule an appointment with me. If you absolutely cannot book online, you can text me to be added to a waitlist; however, wait times may be longer, as I prioritize scheduled appointments first.

Will I lose my files during the upgrade?

While it’s unlikely that you will lose any data, I always highly recommend backing up anything very important before bringing your computer in for service. You never know exactly how a computer will respond during a major upgrade, and it’s always better to err on the side of caution. I do my best to preserve everything, but having your own backup gives you extra peace of mind.

✅ What You Should Do Now

  1. Check if your computer can be upgraded to Windows 11 (most systems made in 2018 or later are eligible).

  2. If your PC isn’t eligible, plan for a replacement now. FTS has new and refurbished laptops and desktops available

  3. Book your upgrade or replacement early — my schedule is filling up, and wait times will get longer the closer we get to October 14.
